Lucille Clifton

I think that I’ll start off this weekly series with some poetry. Here’s our first poet and first poem:

Poet: Lucille Clifton (June 27, 1936 in Depew, New York – February 13, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland), was an American poet, writer, and educator from Buffalo, New York. From 1979 to 1985 she was Poet Laureate of Maryland. Clifton was nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.

To a Dark Moses
by Lucille Clifton

you are the one
i am lit for.
Come with your rod
that twists
and is a serpent.
i am the bush.
i am burning
i am not consumed.
