Yep I did it!

Check out the time I went to the dentist after being in pain for about a month. Turns out there was nothing for me to be afraid of. Have a good one.

Black Barbie Goes To The Dentist in Korea

I’m not the biggest fan of the dentist, never have been. No part of me fancies sitting in the plastic covered chair looking up at fluorescent lights and having someone pick at my teeth with some form metal foreign objects. I’ve been putting off a visit for a year (horrible, I know!) so last month I decided to put on my big girl panties took the plunge. I had never had anyone outside of Texas check out my teeth, so, of course, I had some concerns. Turns out the whole experience were not bad.

  1. What About Your Friends

The best and most logical place to go about looking for a dentist is to ask your friends; if you have Korean friends, even better. Niall sent me the address and website of the dentist he’s using, and I must say the guy’s work is good. That there was good enough for me; and yes, Niall showed me his teeth, and yes I looked in his mouth. Weird I know, but it’s Korea, who cares?

All you need is your trust bankcard and your ARC (alien registration card). They will be able to look up your number and confirm that you have medical/dental coverage; no medical card needed. Pretty cool, eh? Or scary depending on how you’re looking at it.

  1. Not Everything is a Covered Expense

I’m from Texas; I’m lucky that the office visit will be covered! Here, cleaning your teeth, and extractions, like wisdom teeth, are covered! Naturally, of course, I needed some work done with me because I had been infected tooth and they needed to clean and then fill it. This cost me a whopping 200,000 won or 175 USD. Trust me, I saved in Korea. For a cleaning, it would cost me 15,000 won or 13USD and extractions 45,000 won or 40 USD. Not bad, not bad.

  1. Relax, they got you Boo

I loved Niall’s dentist. He told me step by step what he was going to do. Not sure what I was so afraid of, but I guess if you’re scared of the dentist in your home country, going to one who doesn’t speak your language is probably worse.

You how in the states when you need to get the numbing stuff, I got a boatload of that shit! I also think there was something else in there because I felt HIGH! That’s not even the highlight of the visit. While we were waiting for the drugs to take effect, but pulled out this book and showed me what was wrong and what he was going to do. I liked that; giving Black Barbie the personal touch. I really liked that. Now let me try getting that service in Texas. Not going to happen.

I really would recommend getting all your dentist stuff done in Korea if you don’t have good dental care where you’re from; especially in America. Dentists there rip you off like hell.
